Goodreads,

Anne Dowling becomes entangled in a web of secrets involving a missing student and a conspiracy at Wheatley Prep in this fast-paced, juicy follow-up to Prep School Confidential

Anne Dowling—a fresh, original, and funny new YA heroine whose knowing, irreverent voice will remind readers of Pretty Little Liars and Private—is back for her second semester at Wheatley Prep. Although things have settled (somewhat) since her roommate Isabella’s death, Anne's still kind of obsessed with the disappearance of Wheatley student Matthew Weaver thirty years ago, since she found a picture of him and his crewmates with the words “they killed him” scrawled on the back among Isabella’s things.
When Anne learns that her boyfriend Brent’s dad is one of the now-powerful Wheatley alumni who rowed crew with Matthew, and that the crew team continues to induct new members with a creepy-sounding ritual called “The Drop,” she knows further investigation could put her relationship with Brent in danger. Determined to discover the truth, she reaches out to Anthony, Isabella’s townie brother, who helps her delve deeper into the secrets in Wheatley’s past. Secrets someone would kill to keep hidden. As the school’s Spring Formal—and its notorious afterparty—approaches, Anne sees the perfect opportunity to do some off-campus digging into the lives of Wheatley’s VIPs in this thrilling, unputdownable read—but if she’s not careful, she’ll be the next student who never comes back.

Let me start off by saying that I love this series so much. Anne is awesome and while she is a bit naive sometimes, her spunk and determination really drive the story along. That being said, if you haven’t read the first book in this series, PREP SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL, I implore you to get your hands on a copy ASAP. You won’t be sorry!

PS-There may be some unintentional spoilers in here if you haven’t read PSC yet. Proceed with caution.

WICKED LITTLE SECRETS starts a couple of months after we leave off in PREP SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL. Anne has been kicked out of her home and forced to go to a boarding school, a week later her roommate is murdered, Anne eventually solves the murder, gets herself in a lot of trouble, and falls hard for a cutie name Brent. Along the way she has unearthed another mystery: what happened to Matt Weaver, a student who mysteriously disappeared one night 30 years ago, and who potentially killed him?

Anne is one of those people who just can’t let things that intrigue her go. She knows she shouldn’t start trying to dig up the past, especially considering everything that happened to her last time she did. But after finding a picture of Matt Weaver with his crew team and “THEY KILLED HIM” written on the back, she can’t help that itch she always seems to get. She wants to know what happens. It consumes her. The research, the snooping, the thrill, everything about trying to solve a mystery entices her to keep going. Like I mentioned earlier, she can be so naive and over her head sometimes but I wish I was as headstrong as she is. Threats just roll of her back, I would be terrified! If she doesn’t become an investigative journalist or something when she grows up, she missed her calling.

Boys, boys, boys. I’ve got to mention the boys, right? Brent became a whole new character in this book. I don’t particularly want to give anything away but I’m not so sure I liked how he became. I was so Team Brent in PREP SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL. But it becomes painfully obvious he is getting frustrated with Anne’s investigative urges. And guess what? Anthony is back! I was very unsure about that decision. He was so wishy washy in PSC. I couldn’t quite figure him out. But he is just like Anne in wanting to discover the truth, despite the consequences, which I love.

If you’ve never read a book by Kara Taylor before, you really should. I absolutely love how relevant and current the language and writing is in these two books. Taylor is in her early 20s and that shows! She knows exactly how young adults talk these days, and knows all the current trends in our world right now. Some of the hazing rituals the crew team does are those silly challenges that kids are doing, my 13 year old sister being one of them. This made the book so incredibly relatable. It was great!

One of my favorite aspects about these novels is what I mentioned in my review of PREP SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL. Taylor pieces together the mystery SO well, you never really know who did what, how, or why, until Anne figures it all out. The whole time I switched between potential suspects, only then to change my mind with the next clue Anne discovers. Murder mysteries can be so predictable sometimes, but I can assure you that is not the case with the Prep School Confidential series!

Just like the first book, a new mystery slowly unravels in the background that will lead us into the next book, DEADLY LITTLE SINS. We are left with such a major cliffhanger, I’m just dying for DLS to come out now. Full of witty characters, thrills, chills, and mystery, WICKED LITTLE SECRETS is a murder mystery you cannot miss!

5 Thought Clouds!
