In My Mailbox (6)

May 19, 2013 In My Mailbox 8

In My Mailbox is a meme that was originally hosted by The Story Siren but has recently found a new home at The Mod Podge Bookshelf. Here you basically share what you have gotten over the past week or so, both physical and ebook copies. These are books you’ve won, books you’ve received for review, books you’ve bought, etc.

I haven’t done one of these posts in awhile, mainly because I’m broke. My summer job hasn’t started yet and I’m running low on funds. I’m the epitome of a broke college student right now! There are so many new releases out that I’m dying to read but unfortunately, they will have to wait a little while. I have received two new books, though, over the last couple of weeks. I didn’t want to make a post with just one book so I waited a bit.

Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board by Zoe Aarsen

I won this through a Goodreads First Reads giveaway that was hosted by the publisher: Lovestruck Literary! It’s a finished copy, which I wasn’t expecting. I can’t wait to read it. I love the cover! It’s the first in a series so here’s hoping it’s really good 🙂

The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau

I was sent an ARC from Houghton Mifflin Books for Children! I’ve been dying to read this one and was excited when I received the ARC for review. They also changed the cover! If you look on the Goodreads page, it’s something completely different but has the same watch face on it. The note that came with it said that this (the ARC) is the new official cover. I can’t decide which one I like better. This new on has a dark forest scene in the background. You can’t tell from the picture, sorry! It took me a while to notice it. The watch is raised and a very shiny metallic color. Once again, you can’t really tell from my phone’s awesome camera.

What have you gotten this week?

  1. My Midnight Fantasies

Great books & thanks for stooping by my blog & for commenting on several of my posts. Hot blooded is the 2nd book, the first is called full blooded and they are both available from netgalley. Also, you should totally read spellbinding, its really cute & has a cute boy in it.

  2. My Midnight Fantasies

Leave me a link when you post the award post. I can recommend you Runes, its on netgalley and it’s so good. It has a mysterious guy in it that doesn’t like to wear shirts what’s not to like a out that? Lol I’m posting the review and an interview with the author on monday if you want to stop by and find out more about the book. Have a good week.

Okay I will! Haha well I don’t think I can turn down a book about a boy who likes to go shirtless! I can tell already he’s probably very swoon worthy 🙂 I’ll definitely stop by tomorrow to read your review!

    • Christine P

I really wish you could see how cool the watch looks against the dark background in my picture. It’s such a contrast, I love it! It’s on my next up list, so I should have the review up within the next week or so. Thanks for following me back! 🙂

I know, I don’t have a job right now, so I don’t buy books. I’ve bought two and another one that my friend bought me in 5 months, probably more lol

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by The Story Siren
This week:

I won the first two books in the SHADES OF LONDON series (THE NAME OF THE STAR and THE MADNESS UNDERNEATH) by Maureen Johnson through a giveaway hosted by Destination Elsewhere on facebook. I was pretty excited that I won! THE NAME OF THE STAR is paperback and came out in 2011 and THE MADNESS UNDERNEATH came out on March 28, 2013 so it’s a fresh, new hardback 🙂 The next book is due out sometime next year from Speak/Penguin Group. It sounds like a fantastic series and I really can’t wait to start them. The covers are hauntingly beautiful, aren’t they?!

I won a set of oracle cards from the HOUSE OF NIGHT series through a giveaway hosted by Uniquely Moi Books. If you haven’t read any of the books in the HOUSE OF NIGHT series, you’re missing out! It’s a unique take on vampires. Each book just gets better and better. So far there are 10 published in the series and the 11th is set to be released October 15, 2013. I have all of the books so far, so these oracle cards are a perfect companion and look great on my shelf that is purely devoted to the series!

I received an ebook ARC of the fantasy novella, THE SECRET EATER by Ros Jackson for review. It sounds quite interesting and it’s different from anything I’ve read recently. It’s release date is in July so be expecting a review around then!

If you didn’t see my post last week, Penguin Teen is letting everyone read the first 70 pages of THE FIFTH WAVE for free! Just go over to their tumblr post and download it to your device or computer! I really can’t wait for this book to come out next month.

I got an invite on NetGalley to download, read, and review THE TESTING by Joelle Charbonneau and I almost fell off my chair. I first heard about it on goodreads and entered a giveaway, which I didn’t win. So I’m sure you can imagine my excitement when I found out it was on Netgalley. This new series sounds AMAZING. There’s a banner on my left sidebar that you should definitely click. It’s such a cool website, trust me. It also has a prequel, excerpt, and fun quiz. I can’t wait to read this!

The Shades of London series looks SO GOOD! Paranormal thriller take on Jack the Ripper? Sold! I’m so in haha.

And I love the House of Night series though I’m only 4 books I think in? I can’t remember off the top of my head but like you I think they keep getting better. Bums me out when I see people saying that it should have ended a long time ago! Oh well we can’t all have the same taste 🙂 Anyway.

Thanks for stopping by mine and following 😀 Followed back.

Enjoy your books and congrats on the wins!!

I wish I had gotten a full copy! It’s just the first 70 pages, sadly. I hear it’s amazing…like 5 stars from everyone amazing. I hope it’s as good as I’m imagining it will be!

Thanks for following! Sorry this response took so long, I’m heading over to your blog now 🙂

  2. Midnight Fantasies

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog! Is the twisted window the movie with Johnny Depp? I’ll have to look that up. And I’ve been looking for that Google friend thing & I can’t find it. I’m looking for the same thing you have & maybe I’m just blind but I haven’t seen it. Lol.

So I have some exciting news: my ARC of SPELLCASTER by Claudia Gray came in today. I’m so excited!

This is my first ever physical ARC and it happens to be from a famous New York Times bestselling author and from one of my favorite publishing companies, HarperTeen. (Please refer to above gif)
Ready for some pictures? Sure you are!

The book is beautiful in person! What you can’t see in the pictures is the dust specks all around the top of the cover. And the blue flame is gorgeous. I can’t wait to start reading this! I have a big test tomorrow so I’ll have to postpone starting until this weekend. Hopefully I can finished up THE SUMMER PRINCE in the next couple of days and then can dive into this one. Make sure to check out the summary and add this to your TBR list on Goodreads!

I would like to thank Goodreads, HarperTeen, and Claudia Gray for hosting this giveaway and providing me a free ARC copy of SPELLCASTER.

That is so cool! Congratulations! I was just thinking earlier, before I started blogging I didn’t know what an ARC was. I haven’t gotten a physical ARC either and I was thinking how cool first copies are, it’s like you’re part of the author’s experience before it’s final. But I remembered earlier that I do have two old ARC books, I didn’t know what they were, my uncle gave them to me a long time ago, back in 2005. I don’t know where he got them and he didn’t tell me anything, he just knew I liked to read and one day when I was visiting him he gave them to me, actually I remembered he let me choose, I think he had like three but I only picked two, now I wish I would have picked the other one as well, I wonder what book it was, I can’t remember.

    • Christine

I know there are hundreds of people out there that get these sent to them by the box load every day but it made me feel special 🙂 That’s so cool that your uncle gave you some back then. You were part of the special group and didn’t even know it! Hopefully you still have them lying around somewhere. I was thinking about doing a giveaway once I finish this book but since it’s my first one, I don’t think I can. I’m weird and sentimental like that haha

    • rivie bleu

Lol, I don’t think I could give away my first real ARC either. Yeah I still have them that’s why I started thinking, I remember it says that the cover is not final and that it probably has errors and stuff like that so I had to see, one of them is the Lightning Thief, I didn’t know it was that famous it would get its own movie lol, I still haven’t read it though.
I read the other is called Far from Xanadu
