Hi, I’m Christine

June 20, 2017 discussion post, life 2

Well hello, everyone! I have some exciting news!

A lot, and I mean a lot, has changed. For those of you who don’t remember or are new, my name is Christine and I started The Bookish Daydreamer way when in the spring of 2013. I was about to graduate from college and wanted a way to pass the time between classes. Reading is one of my favorite things and somehow I stumbled upon the magical world of book blogging. I decided to make a blog on a whim with no real idea what would come of it. I wasn’t expecting to get any followers or for anyone to have the slightest interest in what I had to say. Heck, I didn’t even know if I would like it. Things really picked up after I graduated. I didn’t have a job yet and was literally home all day every day and was more than happy to devote all my time to reading, reading, and reading. I was absolutely loving the community and sharing my thoughts will everyone. Book blogging was my life back then and it was awesome.

The next summer is when things started to shift a bit. I started my doctor of physical therapy program in 2014. I was still wanting to read and blog but when I tell you that this program was intense, it was intense. I was in class from 8 am until 6-7pm Monday through Friday and then worked all weekend. I was taking human anatomy that required me to know every single fiber of the human body. When I wasn’t in class, I was in the cadaver lab. This class was brutal. It was during this summer that my dream career of being a physical therapist started to lose its luster and sheen. I slowly came to the realization this career was not for me…at all. I ended up dropping out of the program with not a clue what my plan B would be. No idea at all. It was a very depressing time in my life. I started working almost full time at my job and fell into a massive book slump. I picked up books with the full intention of blogging about it. 4/10 times I didn’t finish the book. 5/6 out of the remaining times I finished the book but just didn’t feel like blogging and 1/6 times I did review it. I felt like I lost my touch. I know reviewing is different for everybody and that there is no correct way to do it, but I felt like I was doing it wrong somehow. Gah, it was awful.

On to August of 2015. I switched my career focus and was accepted into a radiation therapy program. I was still working and that along with a full course load, studying really hard, and with clinicals three days a week, I was too tired to do any reading on the side. I just didn’t have the time nor energy sadly. And thus you see that my online presence completely vanished. I stopped tweeting, posting pictures on Instagram, and blogging altogether. I lost contact with all my amazing book friends (I’m so sorry, guys. I hope one day we can reconnect!). I no longer knew what books were coming out when and didn’t even realize when my favorite books had sequels coming out. It was just sad all around! I thought about coming back multiple times and longed for the bookish interaction I got from this community but I knew it wasn’t going to be feasible to keep the blog up and make it worth it until I graduated school.

Fast forward to now and I can excitedly say I graduated with a 4.0 GPA (see studying super hard all the time came in handy and abandoning the blog wasn’t completely worthless!) and now I’m back, rejuvenated, and ready to get back to book blogging!

I’m going to be easing my way back into things so it’ll be a little slow until I get back into the swing of things. I’ve got a post coming up next week about how I’m doing things differently this time around so stay tuned for that! I’ve also got a couple of reviews scheduled over the course of the next few weeks. Like I said, it’s going to be scarce for awhile since I haven’t been reading anything at all and what little I did read, I didn’t write a review sooo bear with me as I make my way through my TBR list!

Thanks for taking the time to read through this whole thing. I hope you’ll stick around and see where this journey takes me!

Please leave a comment saying hi with a link to your blog! I would love to come visit and get a list of blogs to follow! 🙂

Congrats on the great grade and graduating! It’s a long haul to get there but totally worth it. And glad to see you back with us. 🙂
