Feed My Reader Friday

Feed My Reader Friday is a weekly meme hosted by I am a Reader, Not a Writer where we share what we’ve downloaded to our e-reader over the last week or so. I haven’t participated in awhile, simply because I’ve been reading printed books lately. With all the blog tours I’ve been signing up for and stumbling across great deals on Amazon, my reader has gone into overdrive downloading new titles.

Here’s what I’ve added to my kindle app on my ipad recently:

JANUARY BLACK by Wendy S. Russo

“Sixteen-year-old genius Matty Ducayn has never fit in on The Hill, an ordered place seriously lacking a sense of humor. After his school’s headmaster expels him for a small act of mischief, Matty’s future looks grim until King Hadrian comes to his rescue with a challenge: answer a question for a master’s diploma.

More than a second chance, this means freedom. Masters can choose where they work, a rarity among Regents, and the question is simple.

What was January Black? It’s a ship. Everyone knows that. Hadrian rejects that answer, though, and Matty becomes compelled by curiosity and pride to solve the puzzle. When his search for an answer turns up long-buried state secrets, Matty’s journey becomes a collision course with a deadly royal decree. He’s been set up to fail, which forces him to choose. Run for his life with the challenge lost…or call the king’s bluff”

DAYNIGHT by Megan Thomason

“Meet The Second Chance Institute (SCI): Earth’s benevolent non-profit by day, Thera’s totalitarian regime by night. Their motto: Because Everyone Deserves a Second Chance™. Reality: the SCI subjects Second Chancers to strict controls and politically motivated science experiments like Cleaving—forced lifetime union between two people who have sex. Punishment for disobeying SCI edicts? Immediate Exile or death.

Meet Kira Donovan. Fiercely loyal, overly optimistic, and ensnared by the promise of a full-ride college scholarship, Kira signs the SCI Recruit contract to escape memories of a tragedy that left her boyfriend and friends dead.

Meet Blake Sundry. Bitter about being raised in Exile and his mother’s death, Blake’s been trained to infiltrate and destroy the SCI. Current barrier to success? His Recruit partner—Miss Goody Two Shoes Kira Donovan.

Meet Ethan Darcton. Born with a defective heart and resulting inferiority complex, Ethan’s forced to do his SCI elite family’s bidding. Cleave-worthy Kira Donovan catches his eye, but the presiding powers give defect-free Blake Sundry first dibs.”

FOREVER ME by Thomas Amo

“Hannah Richards isn’t your typical 16 year-old at Wichita Falls High. Fashions, trends, cosmetics and style are unimportant to her. An avid reader, guitar player, classic movie and television buff, Hannah marches to the beat of her own drum. Visible only to her Father the town Sheriff, and her two best friends. Hannah lives a simple, un-pampered life as an “Eastie.”

After coming to the aide of Taylor Monroe, a popular member of the ultra snobby “Stilettos” at school, Hannah’s life beings spiraling out of control. As she starts spending more time with Taylor, her best friends abandon her, after a series of misunderstandings, causing Hannah to re-invent herself.

Hannah quickly gets caught up in a life much different than the one she knows, where status, glamour, makeup, appearance and acceptance become her masters. And what of the dark secret that haunts the streets of Wichita Falls?

Can Hannah survive the lies, deceit, jealousy and rage that are now waiting for her behind every corner? Will she succumb to the pressures of popularity? Or will she be crushed under the heels of the “Stilettos”?

~High school is hard enough just being yourself, let alone being someone you’re not~”

PRISON NATION by Jenni Merritt

“In the Nation, no one is innocent – not even the children born behind bars. Millie 942B has spent her entire life locked away with her criminal parents and countless other inmates. She believes in the Nation, in its strict laws and harsh punishments.

But when Millie is released on her eighteenth birthday, she finds things are nothing as she was taught. People vanish, never to be seen again. Lies cover every word. Trust is as fragile as ice.

And then there is Reed. Born and raised outside the Prison walls, his dreams and thoughts cause Millie to doubt everything she has ever believed.

What is truly worth fighting for? If she pushes too hard, she could lose her freedom. If she stays silent, she could lose herself. The clock is ticking, and Millie must find the truth before it is too late.”

Kindle has a lot of great deals and books. I have a Nook so I prefer B&N even if they don’t have as many deals lol. I didn’t add any books this week. I think I already got all the free cool books and I can’t spend money on others when there are so many, part of series that I’ve started and need to finish.

Does B&N do self publishing? I’ve found a lot of great books on Amazon from authors who published through Amazon. My mom has a Nook and loves it. I’ve heard that they’re trying to revamp the whole Nook program. It’ll be interesting to see how that turns out. I really need to stop buying so many books, at least for right now!

Thanks for following back 🙂 I’m obsessed with the cover for January Black. I wish I had a physical copy so I could look at it every time I go to read it! I can’t wait to read Prison Nation. It sounds so different from other things I’ve read recently. I believe it’s still on sale! The author was holding a 3 day event where it was free, so I definitely had to snatch it up.
